The purpose of Winter Drum Line is to give students an opportunity to participate in a performance based educational experience. Winter drum line was also created to enhance the marching band, therefore all students that wish to participate in winter drum line for more than one season must participate in marching band.

.  Tryouts for Winter Drum Line are the end of October/beginning of November. No experience is necessary to try out. This activity is open to both male and female students.  Competitions are held at high schools all across the state. Most competitions are on Saturdays from January till the first Saturday in April and occasionally on Sundays.

.  Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. –9:00 p.m. at the Dakota 9th grade center. There will also be practices on Saturdays prior to leaving for a competition.

.  The cost of this activity is $200 per person and All students are required to participate in fundraisers set up throughout the season including bottle drives and tag days. Students are also responsible for purchasing the uniform, sticks/mallets, and any other accessories needed for the performances.
