The Marching Band at Dakota High School is one of the largest student organizations on campus, with over 100 students involved. The ensemble includes students from all concert band levels as well as the Color Guard Program, building a strong sense of community and school spirit through shared performance experiences.
Preparation for the fall season begins in early May, with practices increasing in frequency through Spring Training in June, Mini Camp and Pre-Camp in July, and Marching Band Camp in August. Once the school year begins, the Marching Band rehearses two to four times per week and performs at pregame and halftime of all home football games.
Students develop leadership skills through section leader and drum major roles, while all members build discipline, teamwork, and musical excellence throughout the season. The program welcomes students of all experience levels, providing support and instruction to help each performer grow.
The Marching Band competes in the MCBA circuit, performs in the Richmond Good Old Day's Parade, and marches in America's Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit.

The Marching Band has been a consistent competitor in MCBA (Michigan Competing Bands Association), qualifying for and performing at State Finals at Ford Field in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2025.
